This week I didn't visit a lot of places but went shopping instead, in order to buy some cool items for the AUT Island. The first prim I picked up was this lamppost! The light on top can be turned on and off, and it has about eight or maybe nine different poses that you can cycle through when clicking to sit on it.

Another special pose. I had to adjust it to stop my hand being through the post, though.
It came with an umbrella so that you could equip it for some of the poses, but I don't think it's transferable. That said, there is actually only one that looks weird without it, so try it out!
The other items that I purchased were a blanket/pillows with some reading poses, and a beach chair set.

Very peaceful looking, right?
From memory the blanket came with three sitting down poses and a dance, for some reason...? It also had one cushion that dispensed a book to equip for the reading poses.

I wish I had time to do this in real life!
The chairs also had special poses, and if you clicked on their shadows it gave you a drink prim to use with them. Unfortunately, the guitar that came with the set to use for the guitar playing animation was non transferable, so anyone besides me wanting to sit on a chair use that post would have had to have found their own.

I spent ages arranging the chairs and surfboards, trying to make a nice little sitting area for everyone to use. But, when I logged on again later in the week, all of those items had been returned to me by the AUT lost and found system! Darryl, what did I do wrong? The lamppost didn't disappear, so I'm really confused. The lamppost has the same permissions as the other sets, unless I'm misreading something... >.< Anyway, maybe you could tell me how I can put them out in the lecture this afternoon?
As for sims that I visited... I have a list of Japanese sims that I'm wanting to try out, but I didn't have time this week, so I plan to do that over the next couple of days. But yesterday, during the Olympic closing ceremony, I had this sudden idea to jump on Second Life and see if there were any inworld celebrations.
There were lots of results that came up in the search bar, but the first place I went to was the official Olympic sim, where they had a massive media playing dance floor and a fireworks display. People were mostly quiet here though, as I get the feeling that a lot of them were couples/friends who were using pms to talk while they watched the display.

The fireworks display was pretty impressive.

More fireworks!
The second Olympic event I attended was the one held in the London sim,
which I had visited a couple of weeks previous. There were heaps of
people there, so many in fact that I couldn't move for fear of my viewer
crashing! They weren't just collected in the area with the main
celebration taking place, either - there were tons of clubs open and
filled with people dancing.
Unlike the last time I came here, when people were a tad unfriendly, everyone was really into the celebratory mood and all chatty. I especially liked it when they all started poking fun at Australia, haha! (There was an Australian there who was bemoaning the fact that they hadn't got as many golds as they wanted. I obviously then just had to make a comment about how well NZ did when looking at our population.) I also decided to have a gamble and put my money into the sploder, and it paid off! 25L in, 92L out.

Lots of nice lighting and effects. Huge glowing Olympic rings were behind me, too!
They had the British broadcast of the closing ceremony on, so I
actually switched off the television and just listened through Second
Life. It was actually really fun, and much less lonely than just
watching it at home with my animals, heh.
Did any of you guys find time to take part in the Olympic celebrations on Second Life? I can certainly see the appeal for situations like this, especially as the timezone difference means New Zealanders couldn't really get together to see the closing ceremony like people in a lot of other countries could. This ability to bring people close together when they otherwise wouldn't have the chance is one of Second Life's biggest strengths, I think.
Also, I posted on the Second Life forums this week, and already have two people wanting to hang out in world with me! So maybe if you're wanting to look for friends, try posting there as well.
