Unfortunately, I was too sick in week 3 and 4, so couldn't really do much and fell behind. But these are the thoughts I had when I found and explored this site called Romance Garden. Here's the link: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Bay%20Terrace/66/200/21
I thought it was a cool place to unwind and forget about all the stress and hassle. And it was!
The music is quite cool too - a mix of old school soul, hits from 80's and 90's and some new stuff too. The creators of this site somehow managed to air it from some online radio station. Ingenious! For me personally, music makes a huge difference. It can either put someone off or vice versa create a welcoming atmosphere.
The place actually reminded me of one of the reports in the south of Spain - Costa del Sol. Lots of open spaces, palm trees... I haven't noticed any hammocks, but those hanging chairs must be quite comfortable.

Plenty of room to dance!

Chilling and enjoying the music
All the people I've met in SL so far are quite friendly and helpful. So this guy came up and asked if I wanted to dance with him. He helped me figure out how to dance and change the dance moves. At first, I was quite amused, but then actually started enjoying it.
Dancing with a stranger
One of the things that came to mind was that a combination of such factors as pleasant music, nice surroundings, 3D, etc... could almost erase the boundaries of our perceptions of the real and unreal. It felt like I was on a dance floor! In real life, I used to go out quite often and really liked going to bars and night clubs, but unfortunately don't have time on it anymore.
Still dancing...
I can't say I'm a good dancer, but my avatar obviously is :) I felt as if I was there and that I could be good at it. Don't know if it's enough for making me take up some dancing lessons, BUT the fact that I'm already thinking of it is great. As you can see, it's dark and I'm still dancing. I haven't even noticed that I spent so much time in SL on one occasion, around 3.5-4 hours, dancing and talking to various people at the same time. If one can find motivation to take up something they know they aren't good at, it should definitely be acknowledged as one of the best things SL can offer to any learner.

Give me a lesson for dancing
ReplyDeleteIn SL or real life? :))))
DeleteIn SL it's pretty easy. In that island you just have to click on one of those hanging hearts and it'll give you options as to how you want to dance.
Great to see you're getting into exploring SL. A colleague has talked about the importance of exploring and coming to understand SL both at the 'explorative' or 'introspective' level, which in a way is the focus of the picture blogs - as well as at the more academic level - which is what our article summaries are about. The understanding of one assists the other.
